On Wednesday, I was invited by Goodwill Southern California to the GOOD x Goodwill SoCal launch party. The celebration was about the partnership between Thrilling (an online site where you can shop your favorite vintage and secondhand clothing stores) and the Non-Profit organization and discount store, Goodwill SoCal's, new collection named GOOD x Goodwill SoCal, which features women’s clothing specially selected by singer songwriter Janelle Monae's stylist Alexandra Mandelkorn (!!!). Each purchase from the special collection supports Goodwill Southern California’s employment programs for individuals with disabilities and disadvantages.
I learned about the environmental impact second hand shopping has and was happily surprised by the facts. Did you know each year Goodwill Southern California (GSC) saves over 100 million pounds of usable items from landfills?! If that wasn't impressive enough, I learned that GSC prepares and places thousands of individuals into sustainable employment through programs and services offered at campuses, Career Resource Centers, Deaf, Youth and Veteran Employment Programs throughout Los Angeles.
With that new knowledge, I encourage you to check out your local Goodwill or second hand shop and save the environment.
